A non-profit organization, funded by doners, whose purpose is to promote responsible development of safe rock climbing areas in North Western Ontario, to ensure access to climbing areas, to develop trails and work with land owners on access issues.

Thunder Bay Climbing

 

Thunder Bay has a unique geography, it is composed of ancient basalt, part of the Superior Crayton. The rock is old and very compact, it is clad in lichen. There are feaures unlike anywhere else in the world. The rock lends itself to steep sport climbing and great traditional climbing. The ice climbing is second to none, with hundreds of pure ice routes and traditional mixed climbs. In summer the climbing is equal in quality to Squamish and Eastern Canada granite, Canmore limestone, Skaha gniess and in winter it is as good as anywhere in Canada. 

 

The guidebook for rock and ice are out of print. New select guidebooks will be available in 2014.
